Peter Stroud has pursued a special interest in elephant welfare for over 20 years.  He is a member of the Asian Elephant Specialist Group of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). 

In 2010, Peter agreed to join the Advisory Council of Elephant Aid International, a project by Carol Buckley, assisting individual elephants in Asia. 

Peter has provided advice to a number of animal welfare organisations and facilities  seeking to improve elephant welfare, including Animals Australia, RSPCA UK, RSPCA Australia, RNZSPCA, The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the Humane Society International (HSI), SAFE New Zealand, The Born Free Foundation, Australia Zoo, Franklin Zoo and Higashiyama Zoo.

In June 2011 Pete joined ElephantVoices as Elephant Welfare Specialist working closely with Dr. Joyce Poole and Petter Granli to develop defining statement on “sanctuary” for captive elephantsa
